About us
OffgridCalc is a project by Antom Media UG from Regensburg, Germany – we camp with a power station and a folding panel ourselves, and we're a software company. Put the two together and you get this site.
How the idea came about
The idea came when the first power station landed in the van: 1,000 Wh on the label, a 200 W folding panel next to it – and the question whether that’s enough for a cooler, laptop and lights over the weekend. The answer was scattered across forums, data sheets and videos, everyone calculated differently, and hardly anyone said which assumptions were behind it. What was missing was a place where you enter loads, panel and storage and get a result you can follow.
Back in Regensburg we built exactly that: a calculator that doesn’t just spit out a number but shows the calculation, works with realistic efficiencies and honestly says where its limits are – for campers, tiny house dwellers, balcony solar users and everyone planning without a grid connection.
Who we are
Behind OffgridCalc is Antom Media UG (haftungsbeschränkt) from Regensburg, Germany, a software company with a soft spot for solar power, van life and everything you need to calculate without a wall outlet. We build web applications and automations – and use that know-how to keep this site fast, light on ads and free of sign-ups. From the same workshop comes CampingCalc with more than 30 calculators for RVs and camping.
Our principles
- Transparent math. Every calculator shows its formula, a step-by-step calculation with the numbers used and an example computed with the same logic.
- Honest limits. Where a calculation isn’t reliable without weather data or manufacturer specs, we say so – for example for solar output in winter or a power station’s solar input.
- No false precision. Typical parameters (system efficiency, usable capacity, runtimes) are marked as guide values and can be adjusted.
- Privacy. The calculators run in your browser; inputs are never sent to us.
- Transparent funding. The site is meant to sustain itself through advertising and labeled affiliate links – details under Advertising & affiliate.
Current status
5 calculators are currently published, plus background in the guides section. The catalog grows step by step – but only with calculators that solve a distinct problem rather than repeating a formula.
